Abstract

Panels are made by lining the vertical walls of a moulding cavity with prefabricated double walled sheets perforated on the inner face, and casting a foam forming resin into the cavity under conditions which cause the foam to penetrate the cavities and extend partly into the wall cavity before setting. The outer face of each cover is smooth. The double walls covers are prefabricated from rigid plastic matl, esp. by extrusion of a fire resistant grade of polyethylene, polypropylene, PVC or polyester. The core is of polyurethane, phenolic or PVC foam. The channels between the ribs which bridge the gap in the double wall covers should be open ended to allow gases displaced by or devolved from the foam to exhaust longitudinally through the skins without interfering with the main foam/skin interface. The internal faces of the covers may be adhesive coated. Used for mfr. of insulation panels for concrete structures, insulated containers or packages. Integral cast mechanical key does not require assembly of ancillary fastenings e. g. rivets or bolts to hold core and skins together.
