Abstract
Foam cored mouldings are made by lining a mould with resin impregnated glass fibre cloth or matting, placing a prefabricated rigid foam core in the lined mould and then covering the exposed faces of the core with more resin-impregnated cloth/mat before closing and evacuating the mould, and curing the matrix resin in the fibrous layer. The core may be of any required foam, e.g. polyurethane, phenolic, the fibrous layers may be of phenolic or polyester resin. Used for mfr. of foam cored mouldings without involving the median or peripheral joint typical of processes where two prefabricated GRP shells are joined together to enclose a foam core, and also for mfr. of insulated food containers or for acoustic or impact resistant enclosures.
