Abstract

A rotary drilling tool combines two groups of rock breaking devices, each of which can be used independent of the other depending on the rock strats to be drilled. One group consists of sets of cutting elements of the diamond type or of the tricone roller bit type. The second group consists of fluid nozzles which break the rock by high-pressure fluid jets. Channels connect the hollow drill string via the nozzles to grooves on the bit face in a spiral or cross arrangement.
