763,676. Boring earth and rock. HUNTSINGER, F., HUNTSINGER, M., HUNTSINGER, C. F., HUNTSINGER, F. R:, HANES, J. W. E., and GLENN, J. L. [trading as HUNTSINGER ASSOCIATES]. Jan. 3, 1955 [May 28, 1954], No. 93/55. Class 85. A rotary drill bit has a replaceable nozzle which direct flushing fluid against the bottom of the borehole and the cutters. A central passage 15 in the bit has a branch 16 which is counter-bored at the end to receive a nozzle 17 which is pushed upwardly into place and held there by a releasable snap ring 26 and may be replaced by a nozzle of different internal bore. A sealing ring, either of O or U cross-section, is contained in an annular groove 23 surrounding the nozzle. In a modification the nozzle is sealed in the counter bore with a mastic type packing. The nozzle may be made of tungsten carbide or a ceramic material.
