Abstract

836,317. Boring earth. REED ROLLER BIT CO. May 13, 1958 [Aug. 28, 1957], No. 15318/58. Class 85 In a drill head 22 having passages 30 for drilling fluid, each passage has a nozzle 21 which is held against axial movement in each direction by releasable locking means. As shown a locking means comprises a resilient split ring 32 engagable with grooves 29, 31 in a nozzle and the head respectively. The head has recesses 33 to permit access to the ends 34 of the rings. Each nozzle comprises a tungstencarbide tube 24 secured to a steel bush 25 having an annular groove 27 for a seal 28. In a modification having single piece tungsten-carbide nozzles, each nozzle is cut away to permit access to the ends of the rings. The drill head is of the roller type.
