Abstract

1,263,965. Boring earth and rock. E. J. LONGYEAR CO. 22 April, 1969 [30 April, 1968], No. 20474/69. Heading E1F. A core barrel inner tube assembly is latched to a drill stem having a core bit 11, and comprises an inner tube 28 threaded to a cap 29, a core lifter assembly 85, 87, and a tubular lining formed of a plurality of separate longitudinal sections 80, 81 located by a bored plunger 74 and a split ring 83. The core lifter is maintained centrally in a core bit 11 by an axially splined ring 14 which also deflects drilling fluid into an annular groove 11c communicating with outlets 88. Diamonds may be provided on the outer surface of a reaming shell 19. After a core has been taken and the core barrel removed to the surface, the tube is unscrewed from the cap and core lifter assembly and the plunger bore 77 plugged. The tube is then threaded to a cap connected to a pressure source, and pressure applied to displace the plunger and the lining together with the core, from the tube. (For Figure see next page)
