Abstract

1422429 Boring earth &c COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE DES PETROLES 3 Dec 1973 [6 Dec 1972] 55842/73 Heading E1F Apparatus for simultaneously sinking a lining casing while drilling a bore hole comprises a casing 3, a drilling head 4 rotatably mounted on the casing by means of bearings 5, first coupling means for coupling the head 4 to a lower portion of a rod string carrying a drilling tool 28 so as to enable the head 4 to be rotated with the tool, and a second coupling means 6 at the upper portion of the casing for rigidly securing it to the rod string. A turbine 12 is provided for driving the drilling tool 28, and the tool is provided with retractable arms 15 which engage in recesses (4b), Fig. 10 (not shown), in the drilling head 4, or alternatively shoulders (34), Fig. 12 (not shown) on the tool may engage axial recesses (30), Fig. 11 (not shown) on the head and having cam surfaces (31) assisting location of the shoulders. A coupling assembly 6 is rigidly attached to the casing 3 by means of latches 8, the latches being withdrawn hydraulically when the assembly 6 is to be disconnected from the casing. The assembly 6 is held in a desired position on a threaded rod 42 by means of a threaded plate 10 which is bolted to a plate 9 having castellations (9a), Fig. 3 (not shown), engaging in longitudinal grooves (42a) in the rod, the plate 9 being welded at 42 to the main body of the assembly 6. The casing 3 is provided with a groove 3b for attachment to a base plate 27 having a guide 7 for introduction of the apparatus.
