Abstract

1357640 Boring earth M P LEBOURG 28 May 1971 [4 June 1970] 17841/71 Heading E1F The core 21 formed by the crown 15 of a rotary bit is removed by a member 31 rotatable about an axis MM eccentric of the bit axis LL. The cutting surfaces of the crown and member having cutting elements which may be diamonds. Flushing fluid flows through the drill string, passages 17 and a passage 36 to a chamber 29, and leaves the chamber through passageways 23 formed in the crown. In a modification the crown has an eccentric bottom opening accommodating the member so that the whole cutting area of the member faces the formation being drilled.
