Abstract

950,305. Boring earth. JERSEY PRODUCTION RESEARCH CO. Feb. 22, 1962 [Jan. 4, 1962], No. 6917/62. Heading E1F. A drag bit comprises a body 11 adapted for connection to the bottom of a drill string, blades 14, 15 extending laterally beyond the body, and pads 26, 27 between the blades and extending over 25-75% of the periphery of the body between the blades. The pads extend within 1/32 inch of the gauge surfaces of the blades and have surfaces 28, 29 containing particles or inserts of tungsten carbide or like hard material. The cutting faces and gauge edges of the blade are covered with a matrix 22 containing tungsten carbide or like hard material particles 23, 24 and diamonds 25.
