Abstract

1,014,433. Boring earth &c. CONTINENTAL OIL CO. Oct. 4, 1963 [Oct 23,1962], No. 39216/63. Heading E1 F. A bit has a rotary cutter with rings of teeth having tips which in their operative position lie at right angles to a radius of the hole being cut. In the construction shown in Figs. 6-8 the bit 150 has cutters 162, 163 adapted to enlarge a pilot hole 160 to form a hole 166. In the modification shown in Fig. 12 the bit has cutters 204, 206, the cutter 206 having radial cutting edges 208 which initially form a shallow pilot hole 240. The teeth 208, 210, 212 are formed of material harder than the material of the remaining teeth.
