Abstract

1328132 Jetting drills GULF RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO 1 July 1970 [10 July 1969] 31944/70 Heading E1F Nozzles 32a so extend through and stand off elements 34c are so rotatably mounted in to extend down from a bottom closure of a hollow body 12 of a jetting drill that, in use of the drill, high velocity hydraulic jets issue from the nozzles to cut grooves in the bottom of a borehole being formed by th drill and the resultant inter groove ridges are broken off by the radial pressures exerted on them by the stand off elements. The stand off elements may taper downwardly, may be held in sockets in the lower surface of the closure, and may project a specified amount below the closure. Preferably the elements are spherical or diamond section rollers. The closure may be so configured that relief channels define a series of flat plateaus in which the nozzle outlets are located and from which the stand off elements are dependent. The nozzles are so located as to cause the cutting in a borehole bottom of a central hole and grooves concentric of this hole, the outermost groove being of larger diameter than the bit, Specifications 1328133 and 1328134 are referred to.
