Abstract
The fibres are formed by the viscose process with addition of an aqs. soln. of a polyacrylic acid opt. (partly) neutralised by e.g. NaOH, to the viscose solution prior to spinning. The fibres obtd. have improved water retention e.g. 134-147% compared to approx. 70% for unmodified fibres. The fibres are used in disposable tissues, waddings, tampons etc. Specifically 2-6% (4-5%) of the polyacrylic acid alkali metal salt is used and the m. wt. of the polymn. is 50,000-300,000 esp. 150,000.
