Abstract
1288243 Preparing wood pulp VITA MAYER & C GIA F IIi VITA SAS 5 Nov 1969 [30 July 1969 26 Sept 1969] 54273/69 Heading D2W A method of pulping comprises treating lignocellulosic material with an alkaline solution containing sodium borohydride in an amount at least 0.1% by wt. of the material, separating the solution from the material and mechanically fiberising the material, the method also including treating with an aqueous acid solution. The treatment with acid may be after fiberising, immediately after separating the material from solution, prior to separation, or before treatment with alkaline solution. The alkaline solution may be aqueous NaOH; an aqueous solution containing NaOH and Na 2 SO 3 an aqueous solution containing Na 2 SO 3 and Na 2 CO 3 ; or a buffered aqueous solution of Na 2 SO 3 . The acid solution may be of SO 2 or NaHSO 3 . Prior to fiberising, the material may be cooked with the salt formed by reaction of the acid with the alkali. Alternatively the material may be cooked, before fiberising with aqueous Na 2 SO 3 . The process may be used on poplar, red spruce or tropical hardwoods.
