Abstract

Prepn. is by mixing a soln. of the epoxy cpd. e.g. a phenol/epichlorohydrine condensate with an aq. soln or dispersion of the protein (deriv.) e.g. milk casein, egg white, collagen, a protein hydrolysate or its acylation prod.; adding a catalyst e.g. ethylamine; and sepg. the prod. Used as dressing for textiles or leather to improve their appearance and "hand". Waste prods. e.g. leather scrap, may be used as starting materials.
