Abstract
A cooled mould for use in continuous casting plants with periodical interruptions fed with a coolant kept in two separate reservoirs at different temps. A liq. metal (an eutectic Na -K alloy) is cooled in one reservoir by an internal cooling coil, and heated to 400 degrees C in another by external heating coils. Electromagnetic pumps and valves are controlled to pass a coolant at a low or at a higher temp. through the mould or from one reservoir to the other. The advantages are the strand produced has much better surface quality; facilitates extn. of strand from cooled mould.
