Abstract
In a continuous casting machine of the type having a wheel 2 with a groove 3 on its periphery closed by an endless metal belt 4 to form a mould cavity, a seal 14 is arranged between a spout 10 for delivering molten metal to the mould and the walls of the mould to prevent any leakage of molten metal. The seal 14 may be made of a refractory material or it may be made of the metal being cast. In the latter embodiment, Fig. 4, the end portion of the spout 15 is provided with a coil 17 of a thinwalled, small bore tube through which a cooling fluid flows, to solidify the molten metal in the region 20 of the mould. A plate 16 may be provided to prevent any entrainment of metal by the rotating wheel 2. A lubricating device is preferably provided to minimize friction between the seal and the mould walls. The " head " of molten metal h is kept constant by a level-regulator (9) in a crucible 8.
