Abstract

The parent patent describes a surfacing compn. for sports ground in which the foundation is overlaid by two intermediate layers, one of which is elastic and the other undeformable, the surfacing compn. is rubber based for running tracks, and pref. comprises a sublayer of particulate or fibrous rubber with a resin latex or opt. rubber binder and pref. a small amt. of a 60% anionic bitumen emulsion, and a top layer made only of granular rubber. In the patent of addition the binder comprises a polychloroprene latex contg. a much larger amt. of the bitumen emulsion, a ZnO dispersion and an antioxidant dispersion and, prior to mixing the binder with the solid rubber, a gelling agent dispersion is added to the binder in an amt. increasing with decreasing ambient temp. at which application is effected. The addition of colloidal silica to the solid rubber is also an independent feature of this patent of addition.
