A stabilized roadbed for rail or road tracks has a lower layer of continuously formed thermoplastic. synthetic resin netting .1, a second layer 'of netting being. between two layers 3 of chemically stabilized material such as asphalt concrete, asphalt sand or rail bitu- 'men. A water barrier 13 of bituminous mixture, or synthetic resin, preferably foam, may also be incorporated. The netting may be of .polyethylene, .polystyrene or polyurethane and may be secured to the foam layer which may be polyethylene, ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer. The. roadbed may 'be laid on a bed of sand or gravel.
