1375482 Roadway construction DEUTSCHE SCHACHTBAU-UND TIEFBOHR GmbH 21 Jan 1972 [12 Feb 1971] 3066/72 Headings E1F and E1G In a method of constructing or reconstructing a roadway over soft or bomb-cratered ground, or on a damaged dike, the ground is covered, or the craters filled with hard foam plastics 4 formed in situ, the foam constituting the major part of the roadway thickness. The plastics foam may be polyurethane, p.v.c. or polystyrene and may itself have a density great enough to provide the road surface. Alternatively (a) the upper portion may be covered or reinforced with metal plates, wire mesh, or highdensity foam; or (b) the foam may form a cushion for a top wearing layer of reinforced high density foam or of material such as polyester-bonded soil. As shown grating or mats 7 laid on the surface 6 of the foam 4 are covered by a further application of hard foam plastics 8.
