Abstract

Bituminous composition is prepd. by mixing a bituminous component with a block copolymer of formula A-B-A (where a is thermoplastic, non-elastomeric block (av. mol. wt. 7500-100,000) prepd. by polymerising a vinyl aromatic cpd., and B is an elastomeric polymer block (av. mol. wt. 25000-106) prepd. by polymerising a conjugated diene opt. together with a vinyl aromatic cpd. block B being opt. wholly or partly hydrogenated) in the presence of at least a part of the mineral aggregate component. Used as road surfacing material. The mixing of the three components at the same time avoids degradation of the block copolymer, such as occurs when the bituminous component is premixed at a high temp. with the copolymer, and the mixt. transported to the place of use, where mixing with the aggregate occurs.
