Abstract

983,918. Concrete expansion joints. R. G. SPARKES. Sept. 19, 1963 [Sept. 27, 1962], No. 36800/62. Heading E1V. An expansion joint or a crack in a concrete base is covered with a strip 1 of rubber or rubber like synthetic plastic sandwiched between layers 2a, 2b of synthetic plastic material having a softening point sufficiently high to withstand the subsequent surfacing with a flexible layer. The plastic material 2a, 2b may be in the form of a flattened tube providing movement gaps 3 or may be two separate strips. The flexible layer may be bituminous macadam or ashphalt and the softening temperature should be not less than 220‹ C. Specification 812,215 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 921,936.
