Abstract

Complementary packaging modules comprising a shallow tray which can be used as the top or bottom of a pack and an open ended spacer which can be stacked between a pair of the trays. Pref. the mating edges of each module present patterns of ribs and recesses which are symmetrical about the major axes of the plan of the components so as to engage laterally when stacked. The components are espec. made of expanded polystyrene with walls thick enough for profile steps along the middle of the wall cross section. Only two stock components patterns are necessary to contain various quantities or sizes of goods. The pack may be opened at any of the module interfaces so as not to spill the contents.
