Abstract
Description
The present invention is in the field of containers, more particularly insulated containers intended to contain products which it is desired to be isolated from the outside temperature.
Isothermal boxes are known which consist of a parallelepiped enclosure and a cover hinged thereon, the enclosure and the cover being walls made of wood or aluminum combined with expanded polystyrene foam; such isothermal boxes, undoubtedly effective and robust, have the disadvantage of being short of high manufacturing. More recently we have proposed isothermal containers made up of a simple container made of expanded cellular material, for example polystyrene foam , in the opening of which can - fit a thick cover of the same composition; the container thus produced essentially consists of two parts: a box and its cover and, produced by molding, its cost is very low; a drawback of such a container however lies in the fact that the objects or products contained are disbosed more or less in bulk inside; moreover its constitution in polystyrene foam gives it a short lifespan.
The present invention aims to provide a container that is both robust, low cost and allowing the storage or maintenance of products or objects contained.
According to the present invention an insulated container made of a cellular plastic material is generally characterized in that it comprises at least one upper part forming a cover, said upper part comprising a handle, or handle, forming with the cover an assembly monoblock, an intermediate part consisting of four side walls, said intermediate part itself being a single piece, and a lower part consisting of four side walls and a bottom, said lower part also being a single piece, and in this that each of said upper, intermediate and lower parts comprises along the edge of its walls ribs and / or grooves allowing it to fit into another part.
It results from this arrangement that, depending on the quantity of objects to be contained, the upper part forming a cover can be used, either with the sole lower part or with the intermediate part and the lower part; it is thus possible to have a single or a double containment capacity. Advantageously, the ribs and grooves have a triangular section.
According to another general characteristic, the constituent material of each of said parts of the container is' rigid cellular polyurethane, called foam polyurethane; a known advantage in itself of such a material is that it gives the container simultaneously its qualities of rigidity and thermal insulation. In addition, it will be noted that the conformation of the container lends itself particularly well to the technique of expansion molding suitable for such a material.
According to another characteristic of the invention, each of said intermediate and lower parts is provided, on the inner faces of its walls, with grooves, the grooves of one part being located in the extension of the grooves of another part, said grooves being intended to house interior partitions. It follows from this arrangement that the interior space of the container can be arranged in a large number of ways each suitable for a particular object or product to be contained. Preferably these partitions themselves made of polyurethane or polystyrene foam will be supplied with the container. Preferably also will be supplied with the container a pair of cushions, also made of avéoairei foam of generally parallelepiped shape, one of the faces has a semi-cylindrical recess, said recesses being intended to form a cylindrical housing for a bottle.
According to a secondary characteristic of the invention1 the lifting container comprises two upper parts intended to be used alternately, a first upper part consisting essentially of a plate surmounted by a handle1 and a second upper part comprising a domed part, said part domed, intended to accommodate the lateral adjustment of a container, being itself provided with a lateral orifice.
Finally and advantageously each of said upper, intermediate and lower parts comprise, in the vicinity of its interlocking edges, means for fixing to another part; for example, these fixing means could be staples of the knee type; it will also be noted that a belt can replace the aforementioned fixing means or be added to them in order to make the different parts more integral with each other.
The present invention will be better understood and details will be apparent from the description which will be given of a particular embodiment in relation to the figures of the appended plates in which
Fig. 1 is a perspective illustration of a container of the invention equipped with a cover or upper part of a first type.
Fig. 2 is an illustration of the same fitted with a cover of a second type.
Fig. 3 illustrates longitudinal and transverse sections of the container of FIG. 1 devoid of its intermediate part,
Fig. 4 illustrates in a similar manner to the previous figure the isolated intermediate part.
Fig. 5a is a longitudinal section, on a larger scale, of a container as shown in FIG. 2 and,
Fig. 5b is a top view of the same after removing the cover.
In fig. 1% and 2 a container of the invention consists essentially of three parts respectively an upper part 1 (la, lb) - comprising a handle 2 (2a, 2b), an intermediate part 3 and a lower part 4 comprising a bottom.
The different parts of the container are made integral with one another by fixing means such as staples with knee-rests 5 arranged on each of the lateral faces of the container incidentally a strap 6 can be added to or replaced with the staples with knee-pieces.
It is noted in these figures that the upper part, or cover, can be a simple plate (lb) surmounted by a handle or can be a cover comprising a dome part 17, the usefulness of which will be described with the following figures.
In fig.3 5 the dome 7 of the cover 1a is intended to accommodate the head and the adjustment of a container 8 (dotted figure); this domed part is itself provided with a lateral orifice 9 capped with an insulating plug 10.
Fig. 3 illustrates a mode of use of the container de'l'invention in which the only lower part 4 is used with the cover; we note that this part has a bottom 12 and that it is a single piece; it will also be noted that the container could be housed in an intermediate part placed above the lower part, partitions housed in the latter serving as a seat for the container.
In fig.4 there is shown similarly the only intermediate part 3 and we note that it has no bottom.
In the two preceding figures it is noted that the interior faces of the walls are provided with vertical grooves 13 and preferably equidistant.
Still on FIGS. 3 and 4, it can be seen that the upper edge of the side walls of parts 3 and 4 is shaped as a rib of triangular cross section 15 while the lower edge of these same walls has a groove itself of triangular section 16 ; the underside of the cover la comprises on its periphery a triangular section groove 17 intended to cooperate by fitting a rib 15; it is of course the same for the cover lb
On fig.5a and 5b we notice a number of container elements, previously described with the same references
We also note a pair of cushions 18 and 19 having on their opposite faces a semi-cylindrical recess 20 and 21 respectively this recess has substantially the same diameter as that of a bottle 22 housed between the cushions; each cushion can be made up of several sections such as 18a., 18b, 18c. We also notice partitions such as 25 and 26, the height of which can be for some equal to the height of the two parts of the container, for the others equal to the height of a single part, for others finally equal to a fraction of the height of a part of the container, these partitions may have vertical grooves such as 28. The grooves 13 and 28 may also serve as a guide for cooling blocks such as 30, of suitable size which can themselves constitute intermediate partitions. We also note1 coming back to fig.3, that the container 8 is surrounded by four cushions 29 of elongated prismatic shape; these cushions can be made of foam, but they can also consist of cooling blocks and the same is true of the cushions 18 and 19 surrounding the bottle 22 (fig.5a 5b). It should be remembered that the cooling blocks are hollow capacities, hermetically sealed closed and filled with water. Both the latent heat of fusion of water and its heat capacity are used to cool the bodies brought into contact with these cooling blocks; this is the reason why, as can be seen in the drawings, these blocks must conform as closely as possible to the shapes of the can, bottles and other objects contained in the insulated container.
The diversity of these figures shows a certain number of possibilities of arrangement and use of the container, linked to the structural originality of the latter; this structural organization will take account of the dimensional standards in force in this or that region. With this each, having the different parts of the container, partitions, sections, cushions, cooling blocks can arrange the container according to their needs at the time.
Although a particular embodiment of the container of the invention has been described and shown, it should be understood that the scope of the latter is not limited to this form but that it extends to any container comprising the characteristics set out above.
