Abstract

1305489 Sheet forming OMEGA PLASTICS Ltd 22 July 1971 [24 Sept 1970] 45625/70 Heading B5A [Also in Division B8] A sheet of packing material, used to protect contents in containers, comprises a thin sheet of microcellular expanded polystyrene which has been vacuum moulded to produce a series of rows of projections 2 on one, and corresponding recesses 3 on the other, side. The sheets, which are each of the order of 1 mm. thick, can be stacked, to provide the required packaging thickness, and also for storage. As shown in Figs. 1, 2 the projections 2 are arranged in a regular pattern and are circular in cross-section, the distance between the centres of the projections preferably being no more than three times the height of a projection above the base plane of a sheet. In a modification, Figs. 4, 5, not shown, the projections (7) are of annular form and have their bases (10) coincident with the base plane of the sheet.
