Abstract

The oxidant gas, at least during certain refining stages, is enriched air contg. >=40% O2, or technically pure O2. The coolant is for protecting the nozzles and refractory coating from heat. The converter is opt. a horizontal cylinder with concentric nozzle, the central tube of each being supplied with oxidant gas by a flexible coupling from a general collector running the length of the converter, whereas the peripheral tube of each nozzle is separately fed with protective coolant by a circuit individual to each nozzle, each comprising a pump, pressure gauge and flow measuring device.
