Abstract

A thin layer of nematic, esp. homotropic material with negative dielectric anisotropy and molecules oriented perpendicular to the faces is placed between two conductive electrode films of which >=1 and esp. both are transparent, being esp. of InO2 deposited on glass carrier plates. In front of the front glass plate is a circular polarizer esp. in the form of a quarter wave foil against the glass followed by a linear polarizer foil, combined with it, whose direction of polarization is at 45 degrees to the vibration axis of the quarter wave foil. Behind the rear glass plate is an electrically conductive metal mirror film esp. of vapour deposited Al, and light passing through the cell and reflected by the layer has the direction of circular polarization reversed so that the polarizer functions as circular analyzer on its emergence from the front face of the cell.
