Abstract

An electrically conducting sensor is located in the inter electrode space a fixed distance from the anode. When the Hg cathode and the sensor touch, the resulting current flow in the sensor is used to actuate an alarm. The sensor is of a valve metal (alloy) and is esp. spaced about 1 mm. from the Hg surface.
