Abstract
Contactors for projectiles with electric fuses operates by the closing of an electric circuit on hitting the target. Generally two nose cones are used, one surrounding the other; one is connected to the electric generator of the projectile and the other to the firing detonator. The internal cone is rigid and is covered with a layer of pliable cellulosic material having a high electrical resistance; its external surface is provided with metallic points directed inwards. The third layer consists of a pliable conducting material, such as metallised plastic fibres or film, graphite powder agglomerated by a binder or an electrolyte gelled in agar-agar this layer is only conducting above a certain threshold and this fact constitutes an important safety factor. As the internal cone is rigid while all the rest is pliable, the device has a very high degree of sensitivity.
