Abstract
Prod. is intended notably for the scouring of natural silk and for the degreasing of natural, vegetable and synthetic fibres. According to the parent patent it is applied to the silk filaments, hanks or woven pieces. The addition deals with the use of the prod. for degumming the natural silk in an earlier stage, i.e. during the spinning from the cocoons. The latter have an outer envelope, formed of external filaments while the internal envelope contains the dead silkworm. Sometimes the latter pierces the cocoon too early and the silk filaments are broken; such cocoons cannot be spun and in this case 4 grms. of the prod. are dissolved in 1 litre of soft water for the treatment of each 20 grms. of pierced cocoons. Such cocoons, as in the case of the envelopes are used as cut strands in spun silk. A considerable reduction in the treatment time is effected by the prod. and conditions are greatly improved by the elimination of the smells.
