Abstract

The sliver passes under a first large roller, against which its upper surface pressed by associated small rollers, over a second large roller against which its lower surface is pressed by associated small rollers, and pref. over a third large roller having associated small rollers. Pref. the large rollers have rubber clothing, and the small rollers are cooled by coolant fluid. The small rollers may be mounted on floating axles and be hydraulically biassed against the large rollers. The small rollers do not overheat, allowing the machine to be run at high speeds. Operating on both sides of the sliver results in a more uniform treatment.
