Abstract
Flexible cables having a solid dielectric core of low loss factor, pref. polyethylene, PTFE or glass, tightly enclosed by a tubular waveguide pref. made of wound Ag coated Cu tape. Pref. the cable is sheathed in a pressure resistant, waterproof sleeve (neoprene, polyurethane or vinyl resin), pref. over a subsidiary barrier sleeve (polyethylene terephthalate) to prevent contamination of the core by migration from the sheath. The hollow waveguide section is pref. circular or elliptical. Esp. for hyperfrequency communications signal cables for use in high pressure ambient conditions, viz on submarines, where the solid core resists crushing of the waveguide tube and will not attenuate the signal.
