Abstract
Flexible waveguide, to operate under high external pressure on submarines, has a low-loss pref. polyethylene or polytetrafluoroethylene core, closely enclosed by an electrical conductor which in turn is closely enclosed by a flexible water- and pressure-tight jacket of pref. neoprene, urethane, or vinyl. Spaced from the jacket is a surrounding pref. bronze, Cu or stainless steel armouring, and the space is filled with a homogeneous, flexible silicone, neoprene or butyl rubber elastomer. - The waveguide cable ends are closed with windows which are transparent to the transmitter energy, and the hollow core is connected to a source of internal pressure to counteract the outer pressure.
