Abstract
Multicomponent metal powder - by atomisation of soln. drying and reduction of solid particles. The powder is prepd. by (1) forming a soln. contg. at least two thermally reducible metal cpds. (2) atomising the soln. in a chamber heated by a gas to a sufficient temp. to transform the droplets of size is not >150 mu dia. into discrete particles, and (3) heating the particles in a reducing atmos. sufficiently to decompose and reduce them, but not to melt the metal or alloy formed. Spec. the metals used are Fe, Cu, Ni, Co, Cr and Mn as oxides or saltS. Homogeneous, suitably sized particles of multimetal constitution are formed which can be used for powder metallurgical applications.
