Abstract

Lubricating or hydraulic fluid comprises a dialkyl ester of (alkyl subst) adipic acid (I), pref. decyl-octyl-2,2,4 trimethyl adipate. Pref. compsn. is 80-99 wt.% (I), 0-10 wt.% polymeric lubricant, (polymethacrylate, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyisobutylene, polyester), 0.5-5 wt.% antioxidant (pref. phenyl-alpha-naphthylamine) and opt. alkyl-subst. diphenylamine.
