Abstract

1310253 Greases SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 22 June 1970 [23 June 1969] 30145/70 Heading C5F Greases comprise a thickened hydrocarbon lubricating oil + 0À1-3 wt. per cent of a phenothiazine oxidation inhibitor + 7-30 wt. per cent of a polyester (i.e. 2 or more ester groups) of one or more C 1 -C 20 alcohols and one or more C 3 -C 20 acids. The thickener may be waterproofed clay or a lithium soap, e.g. lithium hydroxy stearate. Many examples of phenothiazines are given including N-benzyl- 3,7-dioctyl phenothiazine. Many examples of esters are given including pentaerythritol esters, sebacate, phthalate and polyglycol diesters and complex esters. The grease may also contain sodium nitrite, sodium sebacate, amino- or benzo-triazoles, glycerol mono-oleate, phenyl- #-naphthylamine, metal dithiocarbamates, dilauryl selenide and polymethacrylates.
