Abstract
Claim I: Zn-Al2 corrosion resistant coating on ferrous substrate, adherent and ductile, metallurgically applied, comprising 25/70% Al2, less than approx. 0.2% Pb, remainder Zn. Claim 2: manufacture comprises immersion of substrate in a fusion bath essentially for 25/70% Al2, less than approx. 0.2% Pb, Si in excess of 0.5% of Al2, remainder Zn. Subordinate claim: removal of surface oxides from the surface of a coating of essentially 25/70% Al2, less than 0.2% Pb, remainder Zn, the aluminium alloy layer effected so that it is thin and smooth. Critical importance of Pb content proved by exposure tests in diverse atmospheres with varied Al2 contents when corrosion resulted from % Pb was modified.
