Abstract
alloy contains 0.8 - 1.2% Mg, 0.4 - 0.8% Si, 0.15 - 0.4% Cu and 0.04 - 0.35% Cr together with additions, individually or in combination, of 0.03 - 0.15% Mn, 0.03 - 0.15% Ti and 0.02 - 0.05% Zr. The alloy is transformed into semi-finished products by extrusion by a process in which the billets are subjected to an anneal at temps. of 470 - 520 degrees C. The extruded semi-finished products are rapidly cooled, at the outlet of the die, by means of a sheet of water or a compressed air jet; a supplementary solution heat treatment may be effected at a temp. of 480 - 540 degrees C. The alloy shows an unexpected resistance to deflection by shock, the quantities of energy developed on bending are comprises between 12 and 15.5 mkp/cm3. The semi-finished products may be subjected to natural or artificial ageing.
