Abstract

569,984. Working aluminium scrap. STERN, M. Sept. 17, 1943, No. 15315. Drawings to Specification. [Class 83 (iv)] Tubes, rods, profile bars and other articles are produced directly from aluminium and aluminium alloy scrap such as turnings, chippings, grindings, &c. by mechanically pretreating at a temperature of from 250 to 300‹ C. and pressure of from 3 to 8 tons per square inch to loosen and disrupt the oxide layers, and then raising the temperature and converting directly into the articles by pressure as in extrusion. The extrusion temperature is 300 to 450‹ C. and the pressure 18 to 40 tons per square inch. The formation into articles may be effected by compressing the scrap in a forging-die.
