Abstract

Aluminium alloy consists of (by wt.) 3.5-5.5% Mg, 0.5-2.0% Zn, 0.3-1.2% Cu, and pref. one of 0.05-0.4% Mn; 0.05-0.25% Cr, 0.05-0.25% Zr and 0.01-0.15% V. This alloy combines high strength with excellent press deformability. It has a fine grain size and is 100% resistant to the enamel paint firing cycle. The ingots are normalised at 400-500 degrees C. for 2-48 hr. Hot rolling at 350-500 degrees C. is followed by cold rolling to the desired thickness. The final T4 tempering of water quenching after a solution treatment at 460 degrees C. for 1 hr. can be followed by heating to 480 degrees C. for 25 sec., and air quenching.
