Kontti (210), sen karareikien sijainti ja kuljetusalustan lukituskarojen (222) sijainnit määritellään optisella tunnistuslaitteistolla (100), joka käsittää joukon yläviistosta konttia ja kuljetusalustaa mittaavilla optisilla tunnistuslaitteilla (130) kontin (210) laskemisen tai nostamisen aikana siten että samojen optisten tunnistuslaitteiden (130) mittauksen perusteella määritetään sekä kontin (210) että lukituskarojen (222) sijaintia.
