Abstract

Un procedimiento para tratar gases de escape que contienen hidrocarburos, monóxido de carbono y óxidos de nitrógeno resultantes de la combustión en una relación sustancialmente estequiométrica de aire/combustible, que comprende hacer pasar dichos gases sobre una composición de catalizador de tamaño grande que consiste esencialmente en una cantidad catalíticamente eficaz de componente metálico acelerador catalíticamente activo y soporte de óxido refractario de elevada superficie, teniendo depositada dicho catalizador de tamaño grande en su superficie alúmina catalíticamente activa o uno de sus precursores de alúmina hidratada mezclado con óxido ce cerio, en una cantidad suficiente para aumentar la resistencia del catalizador al envenenamiento por materiales extraños, con lo cual se oxidan dichos hidrocarburos y monóxidos de carbono y simultáneamente se reducen dichos óxidos de nitrógeno de dichos gases de escape.
