Abstract
PURPOSE:To maintain high purifying capacity over a long period by baking a catalyst support comprisng an alumina containing composition added with a cerium compound of a three-way catalyst at a specific temp. or more within a reducing atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:In case of simultaneously treating carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides within an exhaust gas of a vehicle by same catalyst, a catalyst support comprising an alumina composition to which a cerium compound such as ceria or the like is added as an auxiliary catalyst element is baked at 800 deg.C or more within a reducing atmosphere such as hydrogen or the like. Thereby, said auxiliary catalyst element is uniformly dispersed while cerium oxide is delayed from being sintered during high temp. use ane the purifying capacity of a catalyst can be highly maintained for a long period of time.
