Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a catalyst of superior high-temp. resistance for removal of CO, HC and NOx by laminating active alumina, perovskite type oxide and a noble metal catalyst on carrier surfaces. CONSTITUTION:Active alumina is coated on the carrier surfaces of a catalyst, and La, Ce and other trivalent rare earth elements are stuck thereon and this is fired for 0.3-4hr at 800-1,000 deg.C. A perovskite type composite oxide layer which is the composite of Al and rear earth elements is formed at 2-35wt % ratios in terms of the rear earth element oxide out of the total amount of alumina. Further, one or more kinds of noble metals such as Pt, Rh, Pd and others are impregnated in the form of an aqueous soln. of water soluble salts and this is fired to form a noble metal catalyst layer. If the noble metal used at this time is one kind, it is used at 0.5% based on the total amount of the active alumina and the peroviskite type oxide and if more than two kinds, they are used at >=0.5%. The catalyst which effectively removes CO, CH and NOx is obtained.
