Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the title catalyst of high activity which is obtd. by supporting platinum group metals on a titanium oxide-based carrier, and shows SOx resistance when used to reduce NOx in exhaust gas to harmless N2 in the presence of NH3.
CONSTITUTION: A sintering agent, a pore making agent, etc. are optionally added to carrier raw material made of titanium oxide or cpd. which forms titanium oxide by heating, e.g. metatitanic acid, and raw materials for components other than titanium oxide, e.g. alumina, followed by molding into a desired shape. The molded product is then dried and calcined at 700W950, esp. 800W900°C in a reducing atmosphere to prepare a titanium oxide-based carrier. The carrier is impregnated with an aq. soln. contg. one or more kinds of platinum group metals in the form of water sol. inorg. cpds. The impregnated carrier is then dried at 80W130°C and calcined at 400W600°C in air to give a desired NOx removal catalyst. The platinum group metals include Pt, Pd, Ph, etc., and the amt. of the metals supported is pref. 0.01W10, esp. 0.05W1.0 wt% to the total amt. of the catalyst.
