1417546 Treating exhaust gases JOHNSON MATTHEY & CO Ltd 17 Nov 1972 [22 Nov 1971 (2)] 31561/75 and 31562/75 Divided out of 1417544 Heading C1A Waste gases comprising nitrogen oxides and a reducing fuel are treated at elevated temperature to reduce the nitrogen oxides by contact with a catalyst comprising a catalyst support of an inert material and a deposit thereon of a mixture or alloy of platinum and rhodium, rhodium constituting less than 20 wt. per cent of the mixture or alloy. Examples describe the treatment of a simulated engine exhaust gas with catalysts in which platinum-rhodium alloys are supported on a ceramic honeycomb or on ceramic honeycombs washcoated with alumina.
