Abstract

An exhaust valve for venting highly contaminated gas from an enclosure includes a pivotally mounted valve flap which opens inwardly toward the source of contaminated gas. The exhaust valve also includes a tubular member suitably shaped to pass through the valve seat the tubular member being normally positioned at the discharge side of the valve. When the valve flap is opened the tubular member is inserted through the valve seat to define a chamber which receives the valve flap whereby the valve flap and the valve seat are protected from direct exposure to the contaminated gas.
