Abstract

A double wall tank for transporting cryogenic materials by ship. The inner wall of the tank, the primary barrier, takes the form of an integral metallic corrugated structure. The outer wall of the tank, the secondary barrier, takes the form of a plurality of insulating panels structurally connected to the inner wall of the tank through the means of external webs and is in liquid and gas-tight relation to external face plates. There are disclosed several types of insulating panels, several procedures for attaching the panels to the external face plates, and several procedures for securing adjacent panels to one another.
