Abstract
1354046 Cold liquefied gas storage tanks HITACHI SHIPBUILDING & ENG CO Ltd 10 Feb 1972 [11 Sept 1971] 6274/72 Heading F4P The inner wall of a flat-walled liquefied gas storage tank is spaced from a rigid outer wall 1, Fig. 1, by heat insulation 3 and is formed of a plurality of liquid-tight barriers 8 free of expansion folds and secured together at adjacent edges by joints 9 which latter are also secured to joists 10 securely connected by legs 12 to the inner face of the outer wall 1; each barrier 8 being supported betweeen the joints 9 by a pad 14 formed by plates 16 from which extend legs 18 connected to said outer wall 1 and the inner face 15 of each pad of at least the floor of the tank being in sliding abutment with the outer face of the liquid-contacting barrier 8 thereby allowing thermal expansion of the pad 14. Each barrier 8 may comprise metal foil 6, Fig. 4, having welded joints 9 adjacent which are screws 28 for holding the barrier edges to joists 10. In a modification the barriers are formed of synthetic resin secured together at their edges by adhesive to overlapping plates. In a further modification the barriers 8, Fig. 3, comprise layers of plywood 5 with an intervening metal or resin paper layer 4 which latter together with adjacent edges of the outer plywood layers and joined together and to joists 10 by screws 23 and jointing material 21, 24. The said portion of each barrier 8 of the tank top and of the upper portion of the side walls instead of being in sliding abutment with its associated supporting pad 14 may be secured to its pad by a single screw.
