Abstract
Developer is applied to a latent image bearing member 12 by magnetic brushes formed by the overlapping fields of assemblies 39, 40. During developing bar magnets 46, 51, 52 are held stationary while magnetizable cylinders 41, 50 rotate. Developer, agitated by augers 60, 61, is fed by paddles 55 to assembly 39 and thence to assembly 40 brush size being controlled by a blade 57. To stop developing a shaft 65 is rotated so that a member 66 abuts cylinder 50 to prevent further brush formation and magnet 46 is rotated through 90 degrees to prevent further developer transfer between the cylinders. This developing system 17, together with similar systems (16, 18, 19) Fig.1 (not shown) each containing a differently coloured developer, is described for use in a multi-colour copier wherein an endless photoconductive belt (13) is charged and flash exposed to successive colour separation images through a lens (11) and filter assembly (25). The latent images are developed and transferred in register (using corona discharge) to a copy sheet (S) attached to a drum (20).
