Abstract

The tubular body 1 of a valve V is screwed into a ring 3 welded to a cask 5 and a connector C made in accordance with Specifications 1,239,907 and 1,239,908 is secured to the valve by sliding a gapped skirt 15b on the connector behind a flange 2 on the valve. Depression of a lever 17 to the -position shown then cams a liquid delivery tube 20 downwards whence its mouth 20a pushes a valve member 9 from its closed position, where it was held in sealing engagement with a lip 7b and a taper 11c of a fixed extraction tube 11, past ports 11b and into sealing engagement with a sleeve 11f thus providing a fluid-tight passageway for beer &c. from a tube 11h through the ports 11b to the delivery tube 20. Simultaneously a gasket ring 19 is compressed into sealing engagement with the flange 2 of the valve, whereupon a rigid ring 21 rises from a seal 22 allowing gas under pressure to flow from a passage 23 via grooving 24 into the valve body 1, past the valve member 9 and into the cask to expel the contents. The external thread on the body 1 is formed with flats or longitudinal grooves which allow gradual release of gas when the valve is unscrewed from the cask. The valve may then be dismantled by releasing a bayonet coupling 11g and withdrawing the tube 11. The annular valve member 9 is resilient and reinforced with rings 8 and 13a.
